RISE
Resilient, Inclusive, Skilled, Educated
Our RISE education program is delivered in schools and communities, fostering life skills, personal agency, and gender-equitable attitudes in young people. Built and strengthened over the past decade through continuous learning and evaluation, the programme is led by educators trained and supported by Girl Rising. Through powerful stories and guided discussion, students explore identity, gender equity, and aspirations, while strengthening digital and financial literacy, critical thinking, and social-emotional skills.
Lasting change happens when schools and the communities around them are engaged.
RISE works with girls, boys, educators, and families to build skills, shift mindsets, and create more equitable environments for young people to learn and thrive.
Girls at the centre

Girls build confidence, voice, and 21st century skills to continue their education, shape their futures, and pursue their aspirations.
Boys as partners

Boys strengthen social-emotional and critical thinking skills while learning to challenge harmful norms and support gender equity in school and in communities.
Teachers as changemakers

Teachers gain skills, tools, and confidence to lead inclusive, engaging classrooms—carrying these practices into other lessons and reaching many more students over time.
Familes as allies

Parents and caregivers become active supporters of their childrens’ education and aspirations, reinforcing equitable attitudes and opportunities at home.
RISE has strengthened my understanding of gender issues, and taught me new digital skills I now use in class. I've seen the girls grow so much - speaking up in class, taking part in discussion, believing in themselves.

Storytelling is a central to RISE. We share the stories of real girls, their aspirations, their challenges to introduce complex topics and build understanding. Through RISE, adolescents also write their own stories, identifying their strengths, allies and aspirations. And through collaborative and participatory activities, RISE helps adolescents build essential skills, including:
-
Social-emotional skills to support confidence, resilience, and agency
-
Critical thinking to analyse information, challenge bias, and make informed decisions
-
Financial literacy to support independence and long-term planning
-
Digital literacy to prepare young people for a rapidly evolving world
-
Storytelling to strengthen identity, confidence, and the ability to share lived experiences
