RISE
Resilient, Inclusive, Skilled, Educated
Our RISE education programme is delivered in schools and communities to foster life skills, personal agency, and gender-equitable attitudes in young people.
Lasting change happens when schools and the communities around them are engaged. RISE works with girls, boys, educators, and families to build skills, shift mindsets, and create more equitable environments for young people to learn and thrive.

Girls build confidence, voice, and 21st century skills to continue their education, shape their future and pursue their aspirations.
Girls
at the centre

Boys strengthen social-emotional and critical thinking skills while learning to challenge harmful norms and support gender equity in school and in communities.
Boys
as partners

Teachers gain skills, tools, and confidence to lead inclusive, engaging classrooms—carrying these practices into other lessons and reaching many more students over time.
Educators
as changemakers

Parents and caregivers become active supporters of their childrens’ education and aspirations, reinforcing equitable attitudes and opportunities at home.
Familes
as allies

RISE has strengthened my understanding of gender issues, and taught me new digital skills I now use in class. I've seen the girls grow so much - speaking up in class, taking part in discussion, believing in themselves.

Explore how we use the stories from the original Girl Rising film to spark discovery and exploration, and build empathy and understanding
Storytelling is a central to RISE. We share the stories of real girls, their aspirations, their challenges to introduce complex topics and build understanding. Through RISE, adolescents also write their own stories, identifying their strengths, allies and aspirations. And through collaborative and participatory activities, RISE helps adolescents build essential skills, including:
-
Social-emotional skills to support confidence, resilience, and agency
-
Critical thinking to analyse information, challenge bias, and make informed decisions
-
Financial literacy to support independence and long-term planning
-
Digital literacy to prepare young people for a rapidly evolving world
-
Storytelling to strengthen identity, confidence, and the ability to share lived experiences
Using Stories to Spark Discovery
How RISE uses Wadley’s story
Wadley’s story is one of the most loved chapters of the Girl Rising film. It see her courage, resilience and determination after a devastating setback. Her story shows us that education is not just about school — it is about opportunity, safety, and the chance to imagine a different future.
Through RISE invites young people to consider:
-
When have you faced a setback — and what helped you keep going?
-
When have you had to speak up for yourself — and what helped you find your voice?
-
How can one person’s determination change what's possible?

Building Digital and Financial Literacy
Through RISE, young people build life skills that help them navigate the world, including financial and digital literacy. They learn how to budget, save, and make informed choices. They learn how to use digital tools safely and responsibly. These are skills many adolescents rarely have the chance to learn, yet they are essential for participating fully in society.
When financial and digital literacy are combined with critical thinking, social-emotional skills, and gender-equitable attitudes, young people are better equipped to shape their own futures.
