An estimated 1.8 million Kenya children aged between 6 and 18 who are supposed to be in school have either dropped out or never been in school at all.

Girl Rising Kenya

Girl Rising has presence in 5 counties in Kenya - Nairobi, Narok, Samburu, Laikipia and Kajiado and is working with 10 grassroots organizations addressing the education gap in some of Kenya’s most marginalized communities and reaching thousands of girls and boys. Three organizations are funded to strengthen their core work and drive change in their communities; Sunflower Trust in Kibera, Big Picture Learning Kenya in Kawangware and Metis.

Lessons and activities in these resources focus on themes such as self-efficacy, participation in decision-making, confidence, and positive attitudes towards gender equality. Apart from these three organizations, Girl Rising’s resources are also made available to seven other organizations whose focus is fostering gender equity and education. These include Teach For Kenya, PaceMaker International, ChezaCheza Dance Foundation, Murua Girl Child Education Program, Drawing Dreams Initiative, Thorn Tree Project and Pastoralists Integrated concerns (PICO). It is critical to eradicate stereotypes and build an equitable future where adolescent boys and girls co-exist and have an opportunity to survive and thrive.

Our program is being considered part of  the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development.
